The time required to review your application can get extended if your video submissions are submitted in DVD or VHS formats. It can take awhile for us to convert them to .mpeg, .wmv, or .mov formats and then edit out the necessary clips.

If you would like to speed up the review process for your application, submitting your final clips in .mpeg, .wmv, or .mov formats would be highly advisable.

If your computer has video (along with audio) inputs for capturing video (look for the yellow RCA input, S-Video input, and Firewire input) to your computer, you should be able to play your VHS or DVD videos directly into your computer and use your video capture software to convert your videos into digital files.

Macs have iMovie which can be used to capture and edit video and then export it into .mov files.

PCs have Windows Movie Maker which can be used to capture and edit video and then export it into .wmv files.

I would advise saving them in the highest quality and largest format possible. We can always re-size them on our end if necessary. But if it they are too small or too low quality for proper viewing to begin with, they may need to be re-submitted.

Both are fairly easy to use...and soon you'll be creating your own highlight reel and publishing it on YouTube.

If anyone has any advice on ripping video straight from on onboard DVD...please feel free to share that here as well.

It should also be clarified here that any submissions that are sent in a DVD or VHS format will not be returned, so be sure to only send copies...NOT originals.

Good luck!

Peter, I've always been one to be fairly open with "me" and performance stuffs.

I am video recording almost 75% of my dances nowadays. From guest arrivals through the early protocols genenerally is one clip. From that big file, I'll trim up to the enterances (unless my voice can be heard earlier doing "room rapport" at the door or by the tables).

However, I am finding that with my "open-ness to what I do in the field" that hosting some of these vid chunks to YouTube is a convienient way to show some field efforts (at least mic time and vocal presences).

Ken~

We are already using YouTube to host the videos that are being reveiwed by the application comittees...but they are being set up with private access so the video portions of one's application won't be on display for the rest of the world to see.

We are very serious here at the W.E.D. Guild about protecting the information our applicants are submitting for review.

Hi Peter,

I use a free application called DVD Decryptor to turn DVD's into a digital format. It has many features and will break down the DVD by chapter or menu however you set the program.

I currently use it to turn my Promo Only DVD's into useable VOB files for mixing MTV Style Music Videos. I have not yet tried to rip or decrypt a Movie to see if I could grab a specific section of a movie for use at a Wedding or Event.

I use a program called ImToo DVD ripper it's not free but it will rip to about 50 different file formats icluding iphone files.

Anyway, I figure this is the best place for an answer to this question.

I have been finding great video from my catalogs of events but the stickler I'm running into is 10 minutes of uncut footage. As you know I runn a video company as well so I don't have a shortage footage but I do have pauses in the tapes. 90% of the time its a 10 second pause while the camera operator goes to the other side of the floor, which can be heard in the music breaks...99% of the time the same song is still playing. So what I'm getting at is can there be little pauses like these as long as it say no mare tha 10 seconds or so?

The only reason I really ask is because I have some really great footage of a celebrity wedding and some other very high energy clips that I would love to use!!

Chad,

As long as the pauses return within the same song and do not skip any of your mixes and/or transitions, you should be just fine.

Ok one final question I swear!!!

If I wanted to use some clips from seminars, classes, and workshops I've taught how much of each things should I include. I have no problem including the entire video but for instance when I teach at UTA class is 4 hours a night....not sure you want to sit through that...but then again you might Wink

Or at local association meetings I've have spoke on many occasions all for about an hour each time. Again, you can have it all but would you rather just have a specific portion or time amount from each?

Thank you.

Chad,

10 minutes uncut from whatever presentation you felt was your best is what I would recommend submitting.

If you want to put in additional submissions from other presentations...by all means...feel free.
